WATER PARK
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why do we need a new pool?
--built in 1976—well past 25 year life expectancy.
--ongoing major annual maintenance issues
--Health Dept. requires costly changes
--ongoing forced shutdowns create uncertainty
for staff/board
2. How can a pool cost a $1,000,000?
--Detailed costs are provided in the hand-out—a
large amount of time has been spent reviewing
other community pools and costing all items
as outlined in the hand-out.
3. Can’t we patch this pool?
--Yearly maintenance costs are increasing
and Health Dept. is threatening closure unless
major upgrades are done. Not cost effective
when entire pool is falling apart. Water loss,
pool closures, and difficulty in hiring staff
for worn out facility that is often closed
creates uncertainty for Board, staff, and
users.
4. Is this pool larger than existing?
--The new pool will be very close to a similar
size as the existing pool.
5. Will it cost more to run and can we afford
to keep it running?
--A comparison of current versus expected
operating costs has been completed, and actual
operating costs will be very similar. With
the expected savings in reduced water losses,
reduced maintenance costs, and anticipated
higher usage it is expected that there will
be less need for additional fund-raising than
at present.
6. Why are you changing the design and why
all the slides/toys?
--Current trends in pool construction and
the additional features are necessary to attract
a broader base of users.
7. Will the waterpark require more lifeguards?
--We have designed and sized the waterpark
to be able to utilize the same number of staff/lifeguards
as the current pool to ensure future viability.
8. How much has been raised to date?
--The community canvas is just underway—we
expect to reach our goal of $250,000 in Private
donations over the next two weeks. Corporate
and Government funding is often impacted by
the level of support from the community so
we need to establish that support first.
9. Can I make my donation anonymously and/or
confidentially?
--Yes, if you wish to do so contact Glenn
McGregor, Fund-raising Chairperson
for more information.
10. What other plans do you have for fund-raising?
-- Private citizens campaign
--corporate sponsorships
--public auction
--Government support
11. What happens if you do not raise enough
funding for the project to be completed---will
I get my money back?
--The demolition/construction will not proceed
until we have determined the financial support
in the community. Once we have in place funding
to ensure we can complete a new pool we will
proceed. If for some reason the project did
not proceed all donations would be fully returned
to the donor.
